Happy ninth birthday to our lovely Dolly! She asked for a new Monster High doll (Jane Boolittle FYI) and to take 2 friends for sushi as her birthday treat, such a mix of sophistication and child 🙂
Of course I couldn’t resist the urge to ‘style’ up her birthday table even though it was for no actual ‘party’ but hey…I get my kicks in strange ways. Nine years ago to today I became a mama when this sweet, funny, timid little girl came into the world and changed our lives. I will forever be yours my baby girl.
School traktatie (the treats you take into school for your class mates here in Holland) had a kawaii theme this year, I painted the marshmallows with black food paint and a felt food pen for the cheeks, cut the watermelon with star cookie cutters and made chocolate coated breadsticks with sprinkles for homemade Poki sticks! Drying them without messing up the chocolate was fun (not). I will not be painting marshmallows again. And that edible ink stains the kids lips!!!
Hello and thanks for visiting 🙂 It’s cherry blossom time here in Amsterdam, I’ve been wanting to make blossom crowns for weeks, waited patiently for the trees at the back of our house to bloom…then had a week of rain and hail showers just when the flowers were peaking, very disappointing, but yesterday the sun shone long enough to dry out the petals, a good job too as they have faded somewhat and are starting to be blown off the branches. I like to think of these pictures as my lasting memories and celebration of their beauty, not to mention the youth and innocence of my children (one of whom may not appreciate the pink flowers in his hair in years to come), but for now they just revel in the ‘blossom party’ as they call it.
I guess I was inspired by mother natures blossoms and just had to make my own (inferior) paper flower garland this afternoon, I used some pre-cut craft flowers and traced around some onto paint colour swatches from the DIY shop to create the pastel coloured ones, I drew the leaves and leaf sprigs freehand and used paper butterfly studs in the centers. I then draped a piece of cotton canvas around the top of the teepee and cut it into a semi-circle curve to glue-gun my paper flowers to, I trimmed back the excess canvas when I had finished arranging and glueing.
I think I might try a version with bigger flowers next…in felt so they are less temporary.
This teepee is the MIDI size plain cotton kids teepee tent available on the website here.
